Binance Futures Adjusts ETH/USDT Margin Tiers Amid Market Volatility
To manage risk during extreme market volatility, Binance Futures is updating the tiered margin structure for ETH/USDT perpetual contracts. New rules take effect September 22 at 00:00 UTC.
Binance Futures will change the tiered margin structure for the ETH/USDT perpetual contract at 00:00 UTC on September 22, 2026. Binance reviews these tiers periodically and said this update responds to recent extreme market volatility. It lowers the maximum leverage available on larger positions.
New margin tiers
| Tier | Notional value | Max leverage | Maintenance margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 – $10,000 | 125x | 0.40% |
| 2 | $10,000 – $50,000 | 100x | 0.50% |
| 3 | $50,000 – $250,000 | 50x | 1.00% |
| 4 | $250,000 – $1,000,000 | 20x | 2.50% |
| 5 | $1,000,000+ | 10x | 5.00% |
Effect on open positions
Positions below the new tier thresholds are not affected. Positions above the new notional limits will have their maximum leverage reduced, so traders close to liquidation may need to add margin or cut their position size before September 22.
