Coinbase Derivatives announced four perpetual-style equity index futures in May 2026, tracking AI, China, defense and tech indexes, with launch set for June 14.

Coinbase announced on May 21, 2026 that Coinbase Derivatives would launch perpetual-style equity index futures on June 14. Coinbase says they are the first contracts of this kind listed on a US regulated exchange.

The four contracts

ContractCodeUnderlying indexFocus

China10CHNMarketVector US Listed China 10 IndexTop 10 Chinese companies listed in the US through ADRs
Defense10DEFMarketVector US Listed Defense 10 IndexTop 10 US-listed aerospace and defense companies

The three 10-stock indexes cap any single company at 15% and rebalance every quarter. The Tech100 index has no weight cap.

How they work

The contracts are cash-settled and use a funding mechanism to keep the futures price close to the index, like crypto perpetuals. Each contract equals 1x its index, so with the Tech100 index at $4,000, one contract has a notional value of $4,000. They trade around the clock on a CFTC-regulated exchange.

As futures, Coinbase notes they may qualify for 60/40 tax treatment in the US, which can differ from how stocks and ETFs are taxed. Users should check with a tax adviser.

Who can trade

At launch the contracts were offered through Coinbase's partner platforms, with retail access planned for the following months. The announcement page lists June 14 in its title and summary, though one heading shows June 8, so traders should confirm the start date with Coinbase Derivatives.
