Coinbase Business Adds AI Agent Payments, USDT Support and Reusable Payment Links
Coinbase Business upgraded its payments tools in August 2026 so merchants can accept AI agent payments via x402, take USDT and reuse payment links.
Coinbase announced on August 11, 2026 a set of upgrades to the payments tools in Coinbase Business, its account for companies. Coinbase said the service had more than 5,000 business customers and had processed more than 100,000 payments through links, checkouts and invoices.
What changed
Payments from AI agents. Existing Coinbase Business checkouts can now accept payments from AI agents through x402, an open standard for machine-to-machine payments. Funds settle in USDC.
USDT acceptance. Businesses can accept USDT through payment links, checkouts and invoices. Incoming USDT converts automatically to USDC, so the business holds a single currency. USDT payments are available in the US and selected other regions.
Reusable links. One payment link can be shared by email, text or QR code and used many times. Owners can cap the number of payments, pause the link or turn it off.
Flexible pricing. Buyers can choose the amount within a minimum and maximum set by the business, which suits donations, tips or variable services.
Product catalog and buyer details. Items are set up once and reused across links, checkouts and invoices, and businesses can collect names, emails and shipping addresses with each payment.
Fees and settlement
Coinbase charges a fee on each completed payment, which it says is lower than card fees. Payments are not subject to chargebacks, and USDC balances can earn rewards, with rates that vary. A month later, Coinbase also announced a collaboration with Citi to connect its payments infrastructure to Citi's banking services.
